Christmas Presents for the Homeless

Dallas Stamper - Friday, December 09, 2011

PIN will be serving a meal to the homeless on Christmas Day. We also want to give every homeless person a present that would be useful for them over the winter. So we have several Churches and a Middle School putting together backpacks with goodies in them to give to the homeless on Christmas Day. We will probable see about 200 homeless people on Christmas Day so we want to have enough backpacks for everyone.

So how can you help. If you want to put together a back pack we are asking that every backpack contain a pair of gloves, beanie cap, scarf. You are then welcome to add any other items that you feel led to give.

I (Dallas Stamper) have the best job in the world

Dallas Stamper - Tuesday, March 29, 2011
I'm the Executive Director at PIN and I have the best job in the world. First, I have the best board of directors, they are very supportive and they enable me to be my best. Secondly, PIN has the best volunteers in the world, they are passionate and caring. Also a lot of volunteers have been homeless in the past were helped by PIN and are now give back. I also get to work with Ken Lees and Michelle Wickum who are brilliant marketers and are helping take PIN to the next level. I get the honor to work with Ken Lees on Ping Pong for Poverty, Mark Wright on PIN's golf tournament, and Patti Watkins on the Rock and Roll Half Marathon. All of those things are great but they are not the reason I have the greatest job in the world.

There is a guy who has been coming to PIN for a while and has been attending our Biblical service for the last 2 years. This weekend he got jumped by 3 guys they beat him so badly that he had three broken ribs two black eyes and a busted nose. That is one of the dangers of living on the street. After the service this Sunday this man came up to me and said he wanted to change his life. He made the decision to turn his life over to Jesus. That is why I have the greatest job in the world. It is really cool that I get to be used by God every day.

Homeless People are "People"

Dallas Stamper - Wednesday, March 16, 2011
I'm sure you heard about the homeless people being asked to vacate a site in the Seatack section of Virginia Beach. If you haven't here is a link to the story http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/local_news/homeless-campers-evicted-from-tent-city I've had so many people ask me what they can do, so here is how you can help.
1) First Pray, I believe if everyone in Virginia Beach prayed for the homeless it would make a huge difference.
2) There is not enough shelter for the homeless that is why allot of them live in the woods in the first place. So that leads me to my question. Would you donate to an emergency shelter to house the homeless? PIN wants to build a place for people like the one's getting evicted.
3) My last question for now? If it was your decision would you allow a shelter to be built a mile from your house? I ask the question because I want to know how bad you want to help people who are currently homeless.

Sorry one last question would you change your answer to 2 and 3 above if that homeless person was your child?

US AND THEM

Dallas Stamper - Wednesday, March 09, 2011
Let me start by saying Us and Them are not necessarily dangerous words; however, the can become dangerous depending on how they are used. For example when we refer to a homeless person as THEM and people with houses as US, I think we make a tragic mistake. You see by referring to a homeless person as them you kind of put them in a position where they are somehow different than you. There was a time that I used this type of language when referring to homeless people. but have tried to eliminate "us and them" from my vocabulary

I believe one of the strengths of PIN is eliminating the barriers between people who currently have homes and those who currently don't have homes. It sounds like a small thing, but I believe small things make a huge difference

PIN "Jobs" Clothing Distribution

Dallas Stamper - Thursday, February 24, 2011
This week in our PIN "Jobs" series we will take a look at our clothing closet. Our clothing closet is so important because it is the way we get clothing to people who are homeless. We give out pants, shirts, socks, underwear, and shoes every sunday to over 100 homeless people.

It takes alot of people to make this part of our organization work. It starts with Paul Brooks who receives the donations at our main office. Then Paul and Carole Kane, Jason and Amy sort the donation during the week. Then at the Church we have Mark and Mary McClaskey, Karen Petre, Karin Brunell, Carol Kane, Julie Burke and Amy and Jason give out the clothing and they do it in such an amazingly loving and organized manner....

It is truly amazing to see it come together.
