Medical

Basic First Aid – PIN has volunteer nurses that offer basic first aid for the homeless of Virginia Beach. Basic first aid is important for the homeless, because they don’t have access to a medical cabinet like most households do. Our nurses do an excellent job of tending to bumps and bruises that come with life on the street. We also are able to get the more serious injuries to the hospital.

Preventive medicine – One of the most important things that PIN does to help the homeless is through preventive medicine. Homeless people are always in survival mode, so medical care is almost always needed when issues arise. PIN’s medical staff does a great job of teaching the homeless to be conscious of their blood pressure and to watch their diet. PIN also provides sun block during the summer to protect the homeless from the harmful effects of being in the sun all day in the summer.

Transportation to other resources – One of the most difficult things about being homeless is a lack of services and transportation to service. PIN has a 15 passenger van that we use to get the homeless of Virginia Beach to social services and the Beach Health Clinic. Often the homeless get frustrated when trying to access government services, so PIN works with them to help them get to the services they need.
