A Simple Call: A Lifesaving Impact

At PiN Ministry, we know that healthcare is more than just treating symptoms—it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and the belief that someone truly cares. Recently, one of our guests reminded us how even the smallest actions can have the biggest impact.

A patient came into our medical clinic carrying not only the weight of multiple health issues but also the long journey of recovery. A former heroin and fentanyl user, he proudly shared that he had been clean for a month and was beginning to feel better. Yet, one major health concern still loomed over him: two large hernias that caused him daily pain and nausea.

When he was seen by our dedicated ODU medical providers, it was clear he needed surgery. A referral was sent to a local surgery center, but the process of navigating appointments, paperwork, and logistics can feel overwhelming—especially for someone who has often had to face these challenges alone.

That’s where PiN’s advocates step in. Sitting down with the patient, our advocate helped him make the call to schedule his surgical evaluation. Together, they secured his appointment and arranged transportation to ensure he could get the care he needed.

For many of us, scheduling a doctor’s appointment might feel routine. But for this patient, it was life-changing. With tears in his eyes, he shared:

“I can’t thank you enough. You guys have helped me out so much already. I’ve had to be my own doctor for the past 10 years, and you guys actually care about me.”

That simple act of advocacy turned into a powerful reminder—he isn’t alone, and his health matters. Today, he is not only on the path toward surgery but also more motivated than ever to take steps toward a healthier future.

At PiN Ministry, this is what our Medical Program is all about: breaking down barriers, walking alongside our guests, and making sure they feel seen, valued, and cared for. Because sometimes, what makes all the difference isn’t just the medicine—it’s the love behind it.
